Scholarship Application open February 1, 2023 to May 1, 2023
This competitive nursing scholarship program aims to support the growth and development of the nursing workforce in NEPA with $200,000 in scholarships to be distributed for the 2023-2024 academic year. Careers in Care Nursing Scholarship available to students and healthcare workers in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties who plan to pursue, or who are pursuing, nursing and who will practice in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
To qualify for Careers in Care Nursing Scholarships, individuals are required to show that they have had a permanent address in Lackawanna, Luzerne, or Wyoming County for the last three years. Scholarships are available to those who are:

Scholarship recipients must commit to staying in Northeastern Pennsylvania, with applications submitted through our online portal. These scholarships from the NEPA Health Care Foundation's Careers in Care program come at a critical time for the regional healthcare workforce, particularly in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties.
“These scholarships provide crucial financial support, allowing students to focus on their education,” said Dr. Theresa Tulaney of Marywood University.
The $1.5 million Careers in Care initiative, running from 2020-2023, includes $830,000 in grants to organizations like Lackawanna College and Saint Joseph’s Center. This initiative follows a 2019 regional listening tour that highlighted the urgent need for a stronger healthcare workforce pipeline, particularly in nursing.
“The demand for nurses is high, and supply can't meet it,” noted Laura Ducceschi of the Scranton Area Community Foundation, which administers the NEPA Health Care Foundation.
Additionally, the Foundation continues its $3.2 million commitment to the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, providing full-tuition scholarships for local students committed to practicing in Northeastern PA.
